Analogue portrait photographer available in Canterbury, New Zealand from 2027

I started taking photographs as a simple way to document my travels without realising how much it would fundamentally change the way I would see the world around me. I experienced a profound shift in perspective and began reflexively searching for beauty and meaning in my visual landscape from the moment I’d open my eyes until my head hit the pillow. I started with a camera I’d purchased as a Christmas present for my fiancé, the original 1961 Canonet rangefinder, which very quickly became mine as I fell deep into the analogue rabbit hole (with no plans of digging myself out any time soon).

In the age of the AI takeover, I think we’re increasingly searching for things that are tangible, real, authentic. This is something I’m feeling heavily as an artist and these feelings continue to push me further towards owning my entire creative process. My goals and personal projects in 2027 include building a home darkroom and learning alternative photography, such as wetplate collodion. My hope is that grounding my work in the real world will deepen my connection with it, and help me re-connect with the parts of myself that are driven deeply to create but have been suppressed for one reason or another.

Photography is meditation. Whether it be in the field capturing nature, or making portraits that aim to show you as your truest self, I approach each frame with intention and lead with my heart.
